Singapore – 2020 Singapore Grand Prix
The Singapore Grand Prix takes place on 16th September in Singapore on the Marina Bay Street Circuit and in 2008 this race was the inaugural F1 night race and the first street circuit in Asia. The 2020 Singapore Grand Prix is the 12th race in the history.
Renault driver Fernando Alonso won the first Grand Prix, amid controversial circumstances, when a year later it had emerged that his team mate Nelson Piquet Jr. had been ordered to crash on purpose. This was by senior team management to bring out the safety car at a timely moment to catapult Alonso to the head of the line.
Sebastian Vettel has won the GP 4 times since 2011 for Red Bull and Ferrari and Lewis Hamilton has won twice in 2009 for McLaren and 2014 for Mercedes AMG.
So in the 2019 Singapore GP, will Lewis Hamilton make up for the Mercedes failure last year and beat Ferrari?
2016 Singapore GP
Sebastian Vettel has won the race four times with Red Bull and Ferrari and Ferrari have won the Singapore GP three times. Lewis Hamilton has never won this race so perhaps this 2016 Singapore GP will be his start year.
Nico Rosberg won the 2016 GP as he completed a hat trick of 3 wins in a row.
2017 Singapore GP
Lewis Hamilton entered the round with a three-point lead over Ferrari’s Sebastian Vettel in the World Drivers’ Championship, with Valtteri Bottas third. In the Constructors’ standings, Mercedes led Ferrari by 62 points, while Red Bull Racing were third.
The race was won by Lewis Hamilton who took the lead on the first lap following a significant collision between Sebastian Vettel, Max Verstappen and Kimi Räikkönen. Daniel Ricciardo finished second with Valtteri Bottas taking third. This result increased Hamilton’s lead in the Drivers’ Championship to 28 points and increased Mercedes’s lead in the Constructors’ standings to 102 points.
2018 Singapore GP
With Lewis Hamilton increasing his lead in the World Championship at Monza see if his run keeps him ahead of Sebastian Vettel here in Singapore.
Lewis Hamilton entered the round with a 30-point lead over Sebastian Vettel in the Drivers’ Championship. In the World Constructors’ Championship, Mercedes led Ferrari by 25 points.
Lewis won the race from pole position to further extend his championship lead, ahead of Max Verstappen and Vettel.
2019 Singapore Grand Prix
Will the championships be all over by the 2019 Singapore Grand Prix?
