FORMULA 1 GRAN PREMIO HEINEKEN D’ITALIA 2020
The Italian Grand Prix is one of the longest running events on the Formula One calendar. The Italian Grand Prix was also one of the inaugural Formula One championship races in 1950, and has been held every year since then. This is then the 2020 Italian Grand Prix. The only other championship race for which this is true is the British Grand Prix. .
Motor racing has always been extremely popular in Italy, the first Italian Grand Prix championship race took place on 4 September 1921 at a 10.7 mile (17.3 km) circuit near Brescia.
However, the GP race is more closely associated with the course at Monza, a custom built park racing track outside the northern city of Milan, which was built in 1922 in time for that year’s race, and has been the location for most of the races since then.
The first GP at Monza in 1922 was won by Pietro Bordino in a Fiat and there were only 3 finishers out of 8 starters.
2016 Italian GP
Lewis Hamilton has won at Monza for the last two years, so can he get another trio of wins at this circuit in 2016 in the 2016 Italian GP?
Well aparently not as Nico Rosberg won the race from Lewis for Mercedes with Sebastian Vettel 3rd and Kimi 4th in Ferraris, so at least Ferrari had one car in the first three in their home race.
2017 Italian GP
With the resurgence of Ferrari this year let us see if Seb and Kimi can move to the top two positions on the podium, to keep Seb in the lead of the Championship.
The race was welcomed by clear sky with Hamilton on pole ahead of Stroll and Ocon. Near the end Ricciardo was 5th but overtook Räikkönen into turn 1 and closed in on Vettel. In the end, Mercedes finished with a 1–2, with Lewis Hamilton winning ahead of the second-placed Valtteri Bottas.
Vettel finished third ahead of a charging Ricciardo. On the final lap, Massa attacked Stroll but couldn’t overtake him and finished 8th. Verstappen recovered from the early puncture to finish 10th after small incidents with the two Haas drivers (Romain Grosjean and Kevin Magnussen).
2018 Italian GP
Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton came here with a 17-point lead over Sebastian Vettel in the Drivers’ Championship. And in the World Constructors’ Championship, Mercedes led Ferrari by 15 points.
Kimi was in pole and Seb next to him in row 1, and Lewis and Valtteri in the 2nd row. However Lewis won from Kimi after Kimi held him back for many laps with Bottas 3rd and Seb 4th, increasing Mercedes’ lead in both championships. See what will happen next year in the 2019 Italian GP.
2019 Italian Grand Prix
Here we have the 2019 Italian Grand Prix, the 14th on the 2019 race calendar.
Following Charles’ win at Spa this could well be the time for the Ferrari renaissance and perhaps they can get a 1-2 this year.
Charles wins from Bottas after a race long battle with both Mercedes drivers.
2020 Italian Grand Prix
In qualifying Lewis was 1st with Bottas 2nd and Carlos Sainz 3rd for McLaren.
The race sarted with Lewis running away with it, but after one incident where a Hass stopped on the side of the road in a relatively safe place and a safety car was deployed. Then Charles Leclerc crashed his Ferrari at Parabolica causing a red flag and Lewis Hamilton went into the pits under a red sign, meaning the pits were closed.
This gave Lewis a stop and go penalty, sending him to the back of the field.
After the restart Pierre Gassly lead the race from a selection of the mid field runners and he did this to the end although Carlos Sainz managed to get within a few tenths right at the end.
