2020 Belgian Grand Prix

2020 Belgian Grand PrixSpa-Francorchamps

So now we have the 2020 Belgian Grand Prix. In 1925, the first Belgian Grand Prix was held at the very fast, 9-mile Spa-Francorchamps circuit located in the Ardennes region of eastern Belgium, about half an hour from Liege. This race was won by the Italian works Alfa Romeo driver Antonio Ascari, whose son Alberto would win the race in 1952 and 1953.

Michael Schumacher has won the Belgian Grand Prix 6 times and Ayrton Senna won 5 times; including 4 times in a row from 1988–1991, and Kimi Räikkönen and Jim Clark both won 4 times in a row, from 1962–1965.

Lewis Hamilton won the race in 2015 so can he make it another win in the 2017 Belgian GP at this wonderful circuit and get closer to his hero Ayrton Senna’s 5 wins.

2016 Belgian GP

Esteban Ocon made his Formula One début, replacing Rio Haryanto at MRT.

Lewis Hamilton, Marcus Ericsson and Fernando Alonso took grid penalties for exceeding their season allocation of engine components. Lewis received fifteen places for using his sixth turbocharger and associated Motor Generator Unit, while Ericsson was demoted ten places for replacing his turbocharger. Alonso had a thirty-five place penalty for introducing his sixth complete power unit.

Hamilton received a second set of penalties when Mercedes introduced a seventh turbocharger and MGU-H ahead of the second free practice session; and a third set for further changes ahead of the final practice session. This guaranted that he would start the race from last place. Mercedes deliberately took the penalties as they sought to stockpile new components for the remainder of the season. They were deeming the Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps to be a venue where the potential for overtaking offset the penalties.

Lewis drove his way back to 3rd behind Daniel after starting from the pit lane.

Nico Rosberg won this race with Daniel Ricciardo 2nd and Lewis Hamilton 3rd, so no repeat win for Lewis this year.

2017 Belgian GP

With all to play for this year who will win, with Seb winning in Hungary now with a lead of 14 points? Can Daniel continue his podium finishes this year after the error of Max in Hungary?

Sebastian Vettel entered the round with a fourteen-point lead over Lewis Hamilton in the World Drivers’ Championship with Valtteri Bottas a further nineteen points behind in third. In the World Constructors’ Championship, Mercedes led Ferrari by thirty-nine points before the race.

In his 200th Grand Prix, Hamilton started the race from pole position for the 68th time in his career, equaling the record of Michael Schumacher for most poles, and went on to win the race. In doing so, he closed to within seven points of Vettel’s championship lead.

Lewis Hamilton won from Sebastian Vettel and Daniel Ricciardo Red Bull.
